Origins

I grew up in a small Ohio town, and I rode the school bus from 1st through 12th grades. My bus ride always included a country road on which every school day we saw a one-room brick school house. (SW corner of Stine Rd and Enon-Xenia Pike). As the years went by, I watched this wonderful, familiar friend fall apart. After I married, the school really began to deteriorate. Every time we visited the area I would want to take a photo of the school, but never did. Finally, when we went specifically for the task, the school was gone. It was a huge loss for me and, since that time, whenever we pass a one-room school, it is a joy to stop to take a picture or two. Baker School, District 18

One of the tour guides for the Kregel Windmill Museum in Nebraska City told us about this school, so we went out to find it.

 West of Nebraska City.  Used 1869 to 1981.  South side of old SR2/I Road, about 100 ft east of SE corner of 52 road, 3 miles west of Q road.

 Building torn down by the end of 2014.

    Thank you so much for this page. I am the person who told you about this school that day you were at the hotel in Nebraska City. Just wanted to let you know that it has been torn down. Very sad day. Lots of great memories there. Many people in my family attended school here. Again thank you for saving these memories!!
